2 John 12 Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete. (ESV)
John is such a person of the heart. He prefers to be there face to face, so that he can see them, touch them, embrace them, look them in the eye when he shares his heart for them with them. In person fellowship is a source of joy. It is not only John’s joy but “our” joy.
God made us to live in community. Joy is accomplished in the koinonia of the church (ekklesia). We all need this. Even introverts like me. We all need human touch. We all know that the word of exhortation from a brother or a sister is more transformative when you can look into that person’s eye. A sermon is more powerful when in a relationship where you know the expositor’s heart.
God strengthen my relationships with the brothers and my sisters. Teach me to both lead and follow through face to face, eye to eye, chest to chest contact. Relationships matter. This is relational discipleship!
In Jesus’s name – Amen,
