The Church Scattered

by Brad Blocksom | Sep 2, 2015 | Church Life, Cultural Engagement, Devotionals, Evangelicalism, Evangelism, Healing, Missional, Practical Theology

Acts 8:25  …they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.  (ESV)

The church was booming in Jerusalem but they weren’t going into Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth. So God scatters (v. 1, 4) the church through persecution! Now they are living sent on mission everywhere they go. Philip is proclaiming the good news about Jesus and doing the accompanying signs of the kingdom in Samaria. When Peter and John leave there they proclaim the good news in villages they pass through on the way back to Jerusalem. Supernatural (guidance, v. 26, 29) permeates the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch (v. 39, 40). And after this he proclaims the good news to all the towns he passes church-has-left-building 2through en route to Caesarea (v. 40).

Proclaim and do the works of the kingdom. Expect miracles to accompany your proclamation: demons cast out, healings, words from God (or via angels). Do it everywhere you go.

Scatter me Lord. Send me. Send us. Teach me Lord Jesus. Guide me Holy Spirit. Equip me, empower me. Grant me boldness.

In Jesus’ name – Amen,scattered

Son

I love the scattered graphic – and wish to borrow it, please. I would link back to this page and credit it as the source of the graphic. In fact, I will probably go ahead (you know, act and apologize??) promising that if that is against your policy, the graphic will be removed from my site. Thank you for your consideration.

Phyllis – It’s a great graphic. I found it on the internet by googling “Church Scattered” or something similar, so I claim no ownership of it. Steal away!
