John 17:22-23 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one. I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world will know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. (ESV)
Jesus’ high priestly prayer really has mission at its core – the mission of Jesus (v. 4) that the disciples will continue her on earth (v. 11). They are “left behind” (v. 15) to finish the mission of being a blessing to all the nations (the Abrahamic covenant). They are sent (v. 18, cf. John 20:21).
We must be unified around the common goal of mission (see unity in v. 21-22) – also that Jesus is glorified and His name made great throughout the earth (v,.. 23). Love is the key to unity and acts as an attractional, verifying testimony of our authenticity as genuine followers of Jesus (John 13:35).
Come Lord Jesus. be glorified. Come Holy Spirit in us – work through us. Let love and unity reign supreme in Your church. May Your name and Your work be proclaimed as great starting here in my town!
In Jesus’ name – Amen,
