John 15:10  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.  (ESV)

Abiding in Jesus (v. 4, 7, 9), bearing fruit (v. 2, 5) it all leads to this: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (v. 12, cf. 13:34-35). Jesus is soloveoneanother confident in this that he no longer calls us servants (doulas) but friends.

You were chosen by Jesus and appointed to bear fruit. You did not choose Him (v. 16). Love is a fruit bearing endeavor. So go and bear fruit (v. 16)! Go and love. Love is the identifying mark of genuine disciples of Jesus (Jn. 13:35). Go and do the work of a love evangelist, esp. to those of the household of faith (Gal. 6:10) – for they will surely see your love for one another.

“These things I command you, so that you will love one another” (v. 17).

God, let love reign supreme in my heart and life. Let the fruit of the Spirit be manifest abundantly as I seek you more and more, Lord Jesus, as I rest in the vine. Let Your life be the source of life giving in me. Apart from You I can do nothing (v. 5).

In Jesus’ name – Amen,

Son
