Luke 12:1b he began to say to his disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. (ESV)
If I don’t tick off some religious people (11:45) perhaps I’m not being as much like Jesus as I should be!?! Following Jesus is an issue of the heart (11:41). Religious legalism leads to death (11:44) and you will drag others down with you (11:52). Do you tithe (i.e. obey the law) – that’s all well and good – but what is the role of justice and the love of God for other people in your religion (11:42)?
Be in public who you are behind closed doors (12:23). Be authentic, be genuine, be the real deal. Don’t worry what people think about you (12:4f). Don’t be afraid: “you are of more value than many sparrows” (12:6-7) to God. You are the apple of His eye (Zech. 2:8)!
Lord Jesus, teach me how to live as Your disciple. Teach me the proper role of law in my life as Your follower. Let grace abound in my heart, let love flow freely from me to others and may You (O God) be glorified! Let justice flow (Amos 5:24) – bring Your kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven (Mt. 6:10). Holy Spirit come! Inhabit my heart. Father Your will be done – let it begin in me.
In Jesus’ name – Amen,
